I Travel. Definition

I have been living in many countries in the past 10 years. Today I am in Brussels. I always have been a traveler. I love to be on the road, to meet new people, to be introduced to new cultures, but most of all I enjoy discovering new things about myself when traveling.

Recently I found a great quote from Miriam Beard that defines me as a traveler:

Travel is more than the seeing of sights. It is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.

Sometimes it’s hard to pack your bags and go somewhere new, but change is good. Change make us grow and become better versions of who we are. We need to be brave and to keep dreaming. Being brave means owning your fears instead of allowing them to own you, to stop you from making the first step to open the door and to start the journey. To travel means to let go and to be open to new, unknown experiences as much as they scare you because you are ready and willing to grow.

That’s my definition of traveling. What’s yours?

For travelling you don’t need to move very far, it can start next-door: your retired and lonely neighboor who may have the most interesting views to share; the selling lady at the night shop from the corner… It’s worth to make a step out of your comfort zone, getting to talk with other people then the ones who have a similar lifestyle, mindset or social status. Travelling is to dare to be exposed to differences and to question and re-question the known…
