CAFÉ VELVET: Colombian coffee in Brussels, anyone?

I love walking around Brussels with my camera in hand to picture the moment. It’s my small pleasure to discover new places and to learn about their story. It was one of these days when I was on a mission. As a coffee lover I am always nicely surprised by how diverse is the coffee culture in our beautiful and multicultural city. The weather was unpredictable but this didn’t stop me to reach my destination.

I decided to boost my mood by going to a new coffee spot suggested to me by  Sandy from smarksthespots. People please meet the new kid on the block: Café Velvet. Ilse Geykens (owner) started her business in Medellin (Colombia) in 2014 aiming to enhance the coffee culture by creating environments where people meet around coffee. This concept has recently expanded to Brussels, where her second café is located. I was fascinated by her story. On a business trip to Medellin in 2013 Ilse felt in love with the Colombian coffee but realized that there was no coffee culture in Colombia. To change that she started her own business. I found a great interview with her. Check it out here.

Saint Catherine is not an area that I often go to, but Culture Trip has some additional tips for you. I can totally add Café Velvet to this list, as I found it really refreshing with its light blue walls and calm vibe.  The coffee is Colombian, black and filtered for me please. 🙂 I wish they have more posters or flyers to tell the story of the coffee they use and its production

*Recently, Café Velvet has added to its menu a vegan option. I tried their lunch and cake selection. Deliciously fabulous menu! The vegan chocolate orange cake is to die for! Do try! 🙂
